Develop Yourself

Bud to Boss Editors Leave a Comment

Last week, I met Kevin for an event with Authentic Leadership Cincinnati. I came home with a box of books, all related to topics that I want to learn about to be more effective in my work.

We can seek to develop others in many ways, even simple ways, the way Kevin is seeking to develop me by sharing his books with me.

Last week, when we talked in the Bud to Boss Community Forum about developing others, Dean and John wisely noted that we can’t develop others without their participation and involvement.

“One of the key things that we as leaders need to understand in order to develop others, is what makes them tick.  If we don’t know or can’t understand what motivates the individual that we’re trying to develop, it is almost impossible to develop them, no matter what other skills we possess,” Dean wrote.

As leaders, we can encourage others in their development by being living examples of what it means to develop ourselves. We can read, reflect, learn, apply — and we can share our learning and application with others.

I hope you’ll join us in the forum this week where we are discussing what it means to develop ourselves and sharing thoughts and goals about ways we are seeking to grow, learn, and develop as leaders.

I also hope you’ll consider joining me in the forum this week. If you have a book, you can join the Book Community and access the forum by following the instructions on page 5. If  you don’t have a book, buy one today.

Also, I want to let you know about a great opportunity to develop yourself: ASTD 2011 is a fantastic conference related to training and development. We are offering the opportunity to visit the exposition of the conference absolutely free. We also have coupons available for $100 off the conference registration fee. Fill out this form today if you’re interested and we’ll send you more information soon.
